I'm not sure exactly what the rpms are but one detail you will get used to is hitting the throttle to engage the tranny and then back off just a little. This technique also gives you that kinda diesel torque feel and a throaty sound out the exhaust.

Honestly, air bags on the truck or no suspension at all on the truck I can feel when the weight shifts to the tongue on many different trailers and many different items, then tie it down.
