Have a new 2025 and on cold start up i have a chatter for a few seconds almost sounds like oil starvation 2024 never sounded like this ??

My 25 stumbled like an old carbed cold blooded motor. Took it in and dealer reflashed the ECM with an update from Polaris. made it
much better even at -15 -20 after sitting in the trailer for a week.

COld start at what temp? I’ve done one at -25c and it started fine. You could tell it was a cold start though.
Starts ok just sounds like valve train chatter for 5 seconds or so until it gets oil pressure ok on starts when warm not sure but maybe oil filter has a bad check valve??

I have a 24 and did this after 1st oil change and only after it sits for few days. Talked to dealer and they tell me its normal as the cam chain tensioner is adjusted by oil pressure. Has not ben a problem but I only have 1800 miles on unit. It sounds bad but again dealer says its normal.

Dont think its normal sounds bad to me going to have to make a trip to the dealer

I have a 2025 and had those same issues with cold starting, one of the latest updates specifically addressed the cold weather start issue, much better now.

I have this issue also on my 2025 but mine is more of a stumble/backfire and will sometimes stall. Do you have any idea of when the latest software update release was made? Mine was built late June, 2025. Had it back to dealer for this issue a couple months after delivery but no newer re-flash was available then. Thanks.

The update came out in October I believe.
The only drawback to the update is they really richened the idle fuel mixture (typical for cold start issues)... it chokes you out when it's warming up. 😬

I have a 25 1500 NS Prem with 750 miles. Dealer did the cold start update and now stumbles when it starts in 40* and almost dies when putting in forward. Never had any trouble before the update, even starting at 10*. Polaris said that using 100% 87 octane gas is the problem. That I need to be using E10 fuel.
It was at the dealership for the clunk in the differentials which Polaris said was normal and not to worry about it until the play gets bad enough to knock out the seals.
I drove a brand new 26 today (while I was looking at a can am) and it drove a lot better than mine. Mine you have to get to 2000-2500rpm before it moves in standard mode. I even lost creep mode after the update. The 26 took off as soon as I hit the throttle.

I think everyone that has spoken about the update said it helped the problem, you might be the first that said it made it worse. As for the fuel, plenty has been said here both pro and con for ethanol. I run 91 premium no ethanol and never had a problem, some feel ethanol makes it start easier. Truth is there is more to gas than just the octane rating and ethanol vs non ethanol. There is fuel at the Shell station and fuel at Wal-Mart......... fuel suppliers are not all equal. Then depending on where you live there are different blends of fuel for different seasons so there is even more at play to consider. I would suggest you test a couple of different options and run what works best for you.

I understand what you’re saying, but what puzzles me is my dad and I bought identical units the same day. Loaded on the same trailer from the dealer. His has twice the miles on it and he doesn’t have the clunk sound, nor did he have the cold start update. His starts like the first day when we picked them up, no matter the temp, and we both use out of the same fuel tank.
Maybe there was a glitch in the update on mine. Hopefully it’s something simple. It goes back to the dealer Tuesday.

Good points Big Red and also irrefutable evidence of an issue from Farmer Frog since both units are fueled from the same tank.
Just to add my $.02 on fuel, I have run only 93 octane non-ethenol 100% straight gasoline from a very trusted source since new. I have experienced the cold start chatter/backfire/stalling as well, and by "cold start" I mean first startup of the day even at 80*f+. I had it back to the dealer where they drove it nearly every day for a week+ (logged and tracked on Ride Command) but stated problem not duplicated. No updates or refresh were done to my knowledge but that was only a couple months after the unit was built in June/July '25 so there may not have been a computer update available at that time. At least it hasn't gotten any worse.
