Hello,

Looks like a good forum w/lots of useful info and posts. We live in a sparsely populated mountain area in Idaho. Hunting, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, golfing, and of course SxS rides are the focus. Current rig is a ’22 General XP 1000. It’s been good to us and rides nice.

Knowing my wife doesn’t like getting absolutely dusty and filthy every time she goes on a backcountry ride, I posed the question that if we replaced our General with an enclosed cab that also has HVAC, would that make it more enjoyable for her. It was an instant yes! She told me to start searching. I looked over the brands and models and have decided on a 1500 XD. A couple of friends recently purchased the enclosed Can-ams. But I like the idea of the 1.5 litter triple engine and the steel belt. Only options I’m going to add out of the gate will be 32” tires, street legal kit, mirrors, and rock sliders (given the long wheel base). Likely will have them add the 1,000lb cargo winch and headache rack as well. But maybe I should go with a Thumper brand given some posts on the Polaris headache rack?

If anyone has strong feelings on required add ons, please let me know. Thanks.

Good choice, you will love how the XD drives and shifts, the steel belt transmission is super smooth.
As for options you are getting exactly what I would get out of the gate, everything you listed is a must for me except the headache rack. That said if you want one I would try the Polaris one first as it's about 1/2 the price of the Thumper Fab and if for some reason it doesn't fit they will make it fit or send it back.

Here is something else for you to consider. If you like black you might want to consider the Texas Edition. For about $2000 more it comes standard with 32" tires on beadlock rims, tinted windows, the upgraded JBL 4200 stereo (more speakers and subs) and a few other things. If you drive slower and want more power for hill climbing there is the Mountaineer which some here have and really like. Not what I need but the right tool for some.

Welcome aboard! I am from the CDA/Sandpoint area and love our machine. If you are close to Post Falls, I would suggest Corbin turn signals, etc. They installed the complete kit for me at their factory for a very reasonable price. Very professional and well built electronics. Enjoy!

Welcome! A very minor but useful add-on is the sun visors. Quick, easy, cheap, and work great in the mornings/evenings/winter. Also some quality floor mats... the offer a slight bit of insulation from noise and heat, and keep your factory floorboards nice and clean.

Have you looked into your options for the rock sliders? I like Polaris because they are easy and look good (kind of stealthy), but I have heard mixed reviews on their durability. I imagine it depends on how hard you want to smack something into them.

Welcome to the site. Your list of options looks good and I would second what jj46 says, get a set of sunvisors as they will get used a lot. If I was going to get a different model I would seriously consider the Texas Edition. I’m not a fan of black because it would be dirty most of the time if I owned it, but there’s a lot of options I like packed in to it.

Same here on the Mountaineer. Too much steep stuff in our area. So I'll sacrifice top speed for the lower gearing.
