SDI Terrain Master 2.1 Shocks

I’m looking for feedback from those who have installed the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 shocks. I‘ve ask all the free AI Chatbots what non electronic adjustable shocks they would purchase if they focused on the most comfortable ride on trails and gravel roads with occasional hauling. Out of the 4 AI Chatbot I asked this question too, 2 of them (ChatGTP, Copilot) chose the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 shocks as their #1 pick for comfort, cost, and adjustability. The Fox QS3 were their second pick. Grok and Perplexity chose the Fox QS3 shocks as their #1 pick and the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 as their second pick. I’ve heard of the others brands, but never heard of The SDI shocks before. I’m thinking I may gamble and try them , unless someone tried them and hated them.

I have the single can Northstar version with a little over 800 miles on it , 90% from riding Hatfield Mc Coy trails. Stock Shocks suck for trail riding , way too stiff, even running 13/14 lbs PSI in the tires to try and off set the harshness.

In the same boat - trying to decide who to go with.

SDI stand for Suspension Direct. American Company that offers Good Quality Shocks.

The SDI are a single spring shock (Mono) with adjustable rebound dampening. (leaning toward them)

Walker Evans also offer a couple different options for the XD 1500 Mono (single shock) or "Piggyback shocks" Dual springs. Another great option that really smooths out the ride

And of Course FOX QS3, Great shocks, been in business long time - can't go wrong. Order these from "Shock Therapy if you chose them.

(They do not offer for single set cab)

X-Boz have great shock also.

I can confirm that the stock shocks are good enough for me.
My riding sounds close to what you do.

Do they come pre assembled and nothing special to install them? Simply unbolt the stock shocks and replace them with the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 shocks.

On snowmobiles I’ve had both Fox and Walker Evans for years and know these shocks. In the AI apps I have, I missed including the X-Boz shocks. I was surprised that Copilot and ChatGPT choose the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 shocks over the Foxes, Walker Evans and Elka Stage 3/4. With the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 shocks I was more concerned with getting them serviced. I really expected the Foxes would have been chosen by all the AI apps. According to what I’ve read the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 shocks have only been out since September 2025. Incidentally, the SDI E-Cliks had the ultimate comfort in every type of riding. However, they are outrageously expensive and are more complicated to install.

There is just not enough information out there nor is there consistent data points that can be measured and quantified for comparison. I would ignore what AI said and base my decision the old fashion way.

I haven’t tried that question yet and don’t rely on AI apps to make my decisions. But I do find their responses helpful.

I have the Fox QS3s on both our Rangers.....XP 1000 and our XD. These shocks make a world of difference in ride when you get in the serious bumps, like going from a YUGO to a Cadilac!!! Installation is relatively simple but the fronts are somewhat a pain because there is limited room for getting at the top bolts.

I contacted SDI and asked some questions. They promptly responded to all my questions. I indirectly learned that you need to stay away resellers that stock their shocks. You need to order their shocks directly from them or a reseller that forwards your order directly to SDI. They should ask you about occupant weights, machine specifics, what terrain you ride on and how fast you drive, in order to build the shocks specifically for you. I also learned that SDI is the only one of the top manufacturers that built the shocks from the ground up to fix the XD 1500’s stiff factory ride. Even though they are new in the market and there isn’t a lot of review on them yet. I decided to try these shocks and found two resellers, Side by Side Sports and Fueled UTV, who asked these specific questions and forward my order to SDI.

I bought the SDI Terrain Master 2.1 Shocks, but haven’t received them yet. The lowest price I found was through Side by Side Sports. Fueled UTV had the next best price. I learned from SDI that some of their resellers carry the shocks in stock and therefore aren’t custom made for your application. All 4 shocks are setup the same and may be stiff or worse. Instead buy from a reseller that drop ships the shocks from SDI and asks you about weights of passengers, what terrain you drive on and how you fast drive. SDI will then custom build shocks and ship them for you. Take it with a gain of salt, but 4 out of 5 AI apps I tried had these shocks as their #1 pick for comfort.

I have the Fox shocks on the three seater. Can't tell you the stock numbers right off hand but I know the rears are 150 series and fronts are 152 series. If anyone is interested I can get the numbers off the box.
