Wonder if anyone is running these? Is DOT rated a major factor when road riding?
I found this statement on the Valor web sight.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) tires offered for sale in the United States incorrectly labeled and marketed as being compliant with DOT Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) are prohibited.

This means that the symbol “DOT” cannot appear on any ATV, UTV, or Not for Highway Service (NHS) tire. Only tires intended for a vehicle certified to the FMVSS are legally permitted to be marked with “DOT” and may be marketed as conforming to the FMVSS.

Language that tires are “approved,” “certified,” or “compliant” with DOT standards are also prohibited per FMVSS standards.

To answer your first question DOT rated tires are not a factor when road riding........at least not for me. I run a 32" X 10" BFG KM3's and they are as quiet and smooth as can be at 60 MPH. Of course different brands and models will perform differently. Take the stock tires for example, I think they are noisy and ride like ass on the road at 60 mph. That said if you live in a state that requires DOT approved tires than it's going to be a BIG deal for you. Make sure you know if your state (or areas that you plan to ride in) require them.

The rest of what you said is simply stating tire manufacturers can't say tires are DOT approved if they are not which makes perfect sense to me.

Thank you "Big Red" for you input. I'll probably run the KM3's. Sound like a good tire .

Everyone I know that runs them loves them, they also wear very well with one member here claiming 20,000 miles. My tires are NOT DOT rated but BFG makes the KM3 in a DOT approved tire. Most people run 32's but if you want a slightly larger tire BFG makes a DOT approved KM3 in a 15 X 33" X 11.50"

I believe Clubin and Mr.C (and I'm sure others) run Valor tires and really like them. These 2 would be on my short list if I was looking for new tires
