I had my transmission replaced this past month. My machine had 605 hrs and 11,100 miles on it. I started having issues where the machine would throw codes when starting and putting the machine into gear. It would throw 2 codes (P0868-00 (Transmission Fluid Pressure Low) and P0928-92 (TCM detected a fault??)). If the machine threw those codes it wouldn't move. You could put its into gear, floor the gas and it would only rev up a couple hundred more rpms and just sit there. You would have to shut the machine off to clear the codes to try again. It started happening when it was cold and continued to get worse as time went on. I sorta found a work around where I would start and idle it at 2-3000 rpms. I would let it there for 10-15 seconds before letting it idle down and shifting it into gear.
Below is what the dealership went through.
My 2024 machine was delivered in March of 25, it was an earlier machine but not one of the first off the assembly line. I've had the rear axle clunk (both rotating and letting off gas - fixed and hasn't returned), a click when driving over rocks (tightened bolts on rear sway bar - fixed and hasn't returned), transmission code issue (replaced), and a whine from the right rear area (replaced 2 alternator idler pulleys, shaft seal and belt). I do have a 5 yr extended warranty. When I bought the machine there was also an extra engine/transmission warranty. I don't know which warranty covered it but my out of pocket was $50.
Final Thoughts:
My dealership has been excellent (and always has been). I will probably change my trans oil at 4000 miles. I do a lot of pavement driving so it is not in dirty conditions so 4000 miles on the oil change seems a bit excessive but I will follow their recommendations. I do have the dealership change my trans oil but do the rest of the oil changes myself. I've seen posts where people got so upset with the transmission in trail/hilly/rocky conditions that they went back to a belt driven machine. Personally, I love the 1500XD and can't see myself going back to a 1000 machine, the benefits far outweigh any negatives (in my opinion). I am 65 and am not hard on my machine. We do the following riding: trails (Black Hills/North Dakota), rocky trails (Black Hills), sand dunes (St. George, UT) and town/county roads (Bismack, ND). We also use it for spraying noxious weeds in fairly rough pastures.

- Warned them this summer that my transmission started to occasional throw codes.
- 11/20/25
- Changed the transmission filter/oil. They looked for debris in the filter and the pan to see if the belt was shredding, it looked normal.
- 12/29/25
- Changed the transmission filter/oil. Saw some sparkles(?) in the pan - still got codes
- Changed the valve body and transmission oil pump - still got codes
- Changed transmission.
