Picked up my new XD 1500 Texas Edition yesterday and getting it street ready… must have a safety triangle… any pics or input on best location for looks and appearance?

Remember if you trailer your Ranger you have to remove the SMV sign or cover it up. It's no longer "slow moving" if it's going down the highway on a trailer at 70 mph. I don't know if it's ok to mount them upside down as shown in the picture above...........I've never seen them displayed that way and would not want to give the Po Po a reason to discuss it.

Here is how SMV signs are supposed to be mounted.

To display a Slow-Moving Vehicle (SMV) sign, mount the reflective orange triangle point-up on the rear of the vehicle, centered as much as possible, between 2 and 6 feet off the ground (measured to the bottom edge), and perpendicular to the direction of travel, ensuring it's clean and doesn't block lights or reflectors. Use mounting brackets or secure it well for vehicles like farm equipment, ATVs, or animal-drawn carts.

Mounting Guidelines
  • Orientation: Always point the triangle upwards.
  • Position: Center it on the rear of the vehicle as much as possible.
  • Height: The bottom edge should be 2 to 6 feet above the ground.
  • Angle: Keep it perpendicular (straight up and down) to the direction of travel (within 10 degrees).
  • Visibility: Ensure it is unobstructed and doesn't cover other lights or reflectors.
  • Condition: Keep the sign clean and reflective; replace if faded or damaged

FYI if your looking for a good SMV sign. This is the last one I bought and is much better than the steel, aluminum, or cheap plastic ones with the webbing on the back. This one is about 1/4" thick and solid orange plastic.

Made a custom sign.
Not saying the "custom" sign doesn't look okay, but SMV signs do have certain requirements and standards to meet. I'm not one of those guys that gives much of a shit about that, but I am a guy that never wants to talk to the Po Po because HE gives a shit about that stuff. I'm sure the sign discussion would go much easier than the one about the "road soda's" if you know what I mean.

Come on Big red, With having the fastest machine (red) why do you need a slow moving sign? LOL...............................

I know right............my "Redneck Corvette" runs waaay faster than 35 MPH but the man is keeping me down. It sucks that Iowa law requires me the display the stupid thing but I am fortunate that I live in a state where I can drive it almost anywhere except a 4 lane highway. By having the SMV sign it gives the Po Po a chance to write me 2 tickets when he catches me speeding. One for speeding, and ones for displaying a SMV when going over 35 MPH.🤬
