When you upgrade your UTV with harnesses, your UTV will be left with an open seatbelt sensor. Using this seatbelt sensor override plug, the electrical loop is closed and you don't have to worry about wiring in your harness. Our harness override plugs are compatible with both Polaris & Can-Am UTVs.
I still see where some people fasten the seatbelt behind them so they can drive the machine without actually wearing it. So I thought I would bump this thread to let some of the newer people know these exist and work great.
I always wear mine if I'm going very far (it's the law in Iowa as well) that said I don't mess with it if I'm just running down the street or driving around out at the farm.
They also make bypass devices for vehicles, just fyi. I haven’t worn a seat belt as a driver in over 30 years. I will wear one in respect, as a passenger in someone’s else’s vehicle.
I used to never wear a seat belt, when they passed the law I was pissed. I was voicing my opinion to an Iowa State Patrol officer at a training I was at when he made me think about it differently. Rather than debate me on the pros and cons of seat belt use he simply said:
"If you knew you were going to be in an accident the next time you drove on the highway, would you wear it or not?" "If your answer is yes, than the truth is you do believe they can help save your life"
Debate over, I quit trying to convince myself that I shouldn't wear one. I started using one that day and never even think about it anymore. Probably the only good habit I have.
