Hello all, and Merry Christmas!!
I wanted to see if anyone has explored alternatives to the Polaris transmission oil and filter. Was told by my local dealer that a transmission service is $990 ish for them to perform, and believe I paid $500 ish for the oil and filter.
A little over $200 for the filter and $35 per quart and 7 quarts.

I would think the oil could be sourced elsewhere easy enough, not sure about the filter and gasket as I'm guessing this transmission is unique to the 1500. I don't know much about CVT Transmissions, but I bet Amsoil would offer an equivalent.

The XD has a new steel drive transmission, not a conventional CVT.
It is a neat looking blue oil, and the steel belt actually engages the transmission on the oil film barrier. Allegedly

I very much understand that we have a steel drive transmission and not the traditional SXS CVT rubber belt set-up which uses springs, weights, and RPMs to engage the clutch, move the belt up the sheeves which increases the speed. That said the XD steel drive transmission is very much a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) Very simply put it uses electronics to control a complicated valving system that directs and controls the transmission fluid to get the desired result. Polaris has 2 videos explaining how it works in greater detail.
Maybe I should have clarified that I don't know much about how automotive styled CVT transmissions work but would assume the oil used would likely be the same or similar.

I would bet Amsoil does indeed offer a product.. Polaris did not invent the wet CVT utilizing a steel chain, they have been around in numerous automobiles.
With the popularity of the 1500 growing I think Amsoil will also eventually have a filter and gasket.
