Newb and looking for feedback from any mountaineer owners!

Hello! Newb here and thanks in advance for any feedback and help.

I'm located in WV and looking to sell my quad and upgrade to an HVAC SXS. I have drove the Hd11, Ranger 1500, and the Ranger 1000 NS.

The HD11 and Ranger 1000 seating and cab were cramped and uncomfortable to me. Also wasn't impressed with the HVAC, mainly AC, in either. The 1500 was by far the most comfortable and enjoyable cab. However, for my intended use, every dealer I've been to has tried to steer me away from the 1500 due to its lack of a true low gear. However, none of them have had any direct experience driving a mountaineer edition with it's lower gearing. Nor do any of them have an allocation for one, which is a whole other issue.

My situation and intended use is....

• i plow snow in the winter and my driveway is steep.
• i haul tree stands, corn, minerals etc up to my hunting areas which involve traveling some steeper, often muddy, slick, wet trails with cross ditches, ruts, creek crossings, and rocks. I'm typically in 4wd low on my quad with speeds between 4-7mph on most of the trails.
• due to HOA restrictions, I can't have a trailer sitting outside my home. They have to be kept inside garage, which i have no room for. So the SxS will need to be road legal so I can ride it to the farm. The ride is about 25 miles on 40-45mph back roads.

Anyway, my question to anyone with a mountaineer edition...
Do you use your machine for plowing, hunting, or in any way like I intend to use mine. If so, do you find the mountaineer edition with the lower gearing to be sufficient and capable for such use or do you find yourself wishing you had a designated low gear?

At this point I've been to 4 dealers looking at machines and inquiring about Mountaineer allocations and once I tell them my intended use, they all steer me towards a Can Am HD11 or 1000 NS for the low gear. I would like to think they are being honest, but they also want to make a sale! And they can't sale what they don't have or can't get right now!

I can't speak to the other items... but I will say that myself and others use the standard one for plowing all the time and it is a beast. I've encountered no issues plowing deep, heavy, very wet snow with a 7' plow.

I dido what jj46 says about plowing snow. I don't have a Mountaineer but I see no reason you would need one to plow snow. I have a 7' plow and it will push more than the plow can handle in very wet heavy snow. I know some people freak out about the "no low range" thing but the XD does have Tow / Haul mode which changes a lot. I wish they just would have labeled it "Low Range" and most people would have been good with it. If you did not try it out you should. That said the Mountaineer should address any concerns you might have with not having enough low end grunt with a regular 1500 XD.

Nice! That's def reassuring! Yeah, I've talked to 5 different dealers and I'm not sure if they are steering me away bc they don't have an allocation and just trying to sell me what they have. Or if this thing just got so much bad publicity from people initially not understanding how to drive and manage the steel drive. But seems like more and more people having good experiences with plowing, step trails etc!

I haven't plowed with the Mountaineer but drive it around my steep hunting property quite a bit. It has a lot more torque than the standard 1500. It is geared the way the standard model should have been. If you live in the flat country the regular one would be fine but in the mountains buy what is made for the mountains.

Hello fellow WVian. I also live in WV and traded my 1500 in a month ago and got the 1500 Mountaineer. Couldn’t be happier. Of course I haven’t plowed snow but for water breaks- steep mountains which is where I’m located as well- it’s the berries. The lower gear made all the difference to me and my application in WV.

I was struggling with justifying the money for these. Especially since I was ready to pull the trigger on a Can Am Outlander Backcountry 6x6 just a few months ago. Then pivoted to a full cab HVAC machine. The fully loaded Ridge is about 15k less and was initially very appealing to me as was the HD11 at 9k less. But I'm figuring out why these cost significantly more now that I've spent time sitting in the cabs and test driving them. These 1500s are really in a completely different league!

My issue now is finding a dealer with an allocation. I've called around to just about every dealer in WV and Southern PA. Struggling it everywhere. Not sure where you bought yours but if they have an allocation available, tell them you know a guy!

Call Eric at Tri County Honda in Petersburg WV 304-257-4420. If Eric isn’t available ask for AJ. Both are good Oll WV men & super knowledgeable and very easy to deal with. This was the 3rd Polaris build-order they’ve done for me personally and they go above and beyond. I always get all the bells and whistles. Hope this helps

I'm not sure how big of a hurry your in.......but I would certainly think you could order one as well.
I can't believe a dealer couldn't locate you one if he wanted a sale, I don't think there is a supply issue.

Yeah, at the moment none of the dealers I've spoke with have an allocation for a mountaineer edition. It seems like the 26 allocations for them have all been fulfilled and I'm prob going to have to wait to order a 27. I've had several dealers try to locate one but from what I'm being told, the nearest one is in NC and they are not willing to share.

Use AI to find who has a Mountaineer and who has the best price. The local Denver dealer just sold two at ~$41,500 including dealer fees. Mine still has less than 100 miles on it, as I just got it, so I can't comment on the rest of your questions. Good luck...

Not sure where you are at but R/J Powersports in Ottumwa Iowa had 2 in stock. Probably too far away depending where you live.

Tow haul seems to work pretty well for low range on mine - did you give it a try?

There exactly what I got mine for with the rebates. No dealer fees! Haven't picked it up yet but all the paperwork is final. Just waiting on my street legal kit and tires to get installed.

Yes I did! The lower gearing in the Mountaineer is so much better for my use!

Yeah it's a little far for me! Thanks for the heads up though. Luckily I found one about 2 hours away!
