I changed the transmission fluid!

Curious if you have viewed the clunk thread ? Check it out and see if it is a possibility.
I’ve seen the threads about the clunk sound, but this isn’t a clunk sound it’s a ticking type sound or a light sizzling sound. I believe the clunking sounds that people are talking about are coming from the axle and it’s just one clunk or pop. This is a continuous sizzling type ticking sound. I shared it with an iCloud link, but not sure if it can be viewed. I clicked on it and I can hear it in the video. There’s one tapping sound in the video, but that was me fumbling the camera around.

Great, another mechanical issue. If mine catches this virus I am going to ship this thing for a fair price and cut my losses.
The clunk sounds like a 16 oz bud light banging onto a piece of metal. Some report it is when they accelerate/decelerate. Mine was rotational in the same rhythm as tire speed.

I looked all over and never seen a full port anywhere up top. The port where I filled has a riser up into the tranny and is used to check the level. It’s not on the very bottom but it close and there’s a riser pipe inside the tranny to set the level at around 140f.
It is under the center section of the back seat
I changed my transmission fluid
I invented new words during the process
Now that it is done I would not hesitate to do it again
A true learning curve

Let us know how it goes

I talked to the dealer today. He's saying that I didn't get enough oil in the transmission and that was the reason for the noise. Says it needs a full 5 quarts I guess. I had about 4.5-4.75 quarts in it. I haven't gotten the machine back because they're waiting on a shock to replace a leaky one on the left rear.

That is good to hear. Thank you for letting us know.
Door locks, roof leaks, and heat leaking into the cab are a PIA but transmission and engine issues would make me start looking for a different brand.
So far I only know of two engine failures and no trans failures. We can work through the little stuff.

Hopefully that’s all it was for ya! Definitely let us know when you get it back, if there’s any noise.

My dealer told me 6.5 quarts of trans fluid.

The amount of oil in the transmission made no difference on the sound.

Fill Port on the Transmission
My Polaris dealer (Dillon MT) printed this page out of the service manual (available for 90 bucks) which was helpful to me, also figured out there is a rubber grommet under the center flip up arm rest in the back seat, (crew cab) to get access to the fill port.
Thanks for the documentation!

Got mine back from dealer yesterday after 4 months gone and it went right back with the tranny light on the dash

Laid up for 4 months and given back with a problem...........I would be seriously pissed and anyone associated with Polaris or that dealership would know about it!

Man sorry to hear that! I agree with Big Red, I think I’d be climbing the ladder fast and loud.

Getting to be ridiculous how non-caring and overly confident Polaris is getting on a UTV priced the same as Jeep. Make you wait FOUR months for a transmission repair, tell all of us with the dreaded clunk they have no plans to do anything. The S x S market isn't what it was two years ago, they better wake up and take care of loyal customers before we move on.

What if any options are out there for transmission fluid filters? I'm running Amsoil in the engine and differentials but don't see anything other than the $200 filter through Polaris.

Maybe someday someone will make one, but these only exist on the Ranger 1500 (that I know of) so I don't see anyone wanting to go through the expense of offering one for such low volume. Hope I'm wrong.

Update. After getting my 1500 back four months later and the transmission warning light came on it went right back to the shop. Today they called me and said the reason the light came on was because I shifted from reverse to forward without placing my foot on the brake or coming to a complete stop. I told them I had not done it anyway different then ever and the light has never come on before even when the transmission was sounding like a scolded cat. I thought one of the selling points was how easy it shifted and you could go from R to F without putting on brake or even at a slight roll. I am not saying running 4-5mph and doing it. Just curious if anyone’s had the light come on by shifting without braking.
