AI Overview

The primary difference is that the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 UTV tire is designed specifically for off-road performance, often lacking formal Department of Transportation (DOT) approval, whereas a DOT-rated tire (such as the LT version) meets federal safety standards for sustained highway use. The UTV-specific KM3 is optimized for grip and sidewall durability in mud and rocks but is designed for incidental, not constant, road use. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Differences:
  • DOT Status:
    • KM3 UTV Tire: Designated "Not for Highway Service" (NHS), though suitable for occasional street use where legal.
    • DOT Rated Tire (e.g., KM3 LT): Certified to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) for highway speeds.
  • Construction & Performance:
    • KM3 UTV Tire: Optimized for lower-pressure operation, high traction in mud/rocks, and superior sidewall flex. It uses a UTV-specific compound.
    • DOT Rated Tire: Designed with heavier-duty construction for higher weight loads, better on-road stability, and slower tread wear on pavement.
  • Tread Life:
    • KM3 UTV Tire: Primarily meant for off-road surfaces; accelerated wear can occur with excessive highway driving.
    • DOT Rated Tire: Uses more durable rubber compounds intended for longevity on asphalt.
  • Versatility:
  • User Opinions: As discussed on Facebook, some riders feel that the non-DOT KM3 is adequate for their street-legal needs, while others strictly prefer DOT-approved tires for safety and legal compliance.

Which AI tool did you use for that post? 😝
Google. I copied "AI overview" in my response so you knew where it came from. I find more and more AI is the easy button to gather a lot of information quickly.

There are no differences in the wheel, all 4 are the same. The difference is only in the tires Polaris put on the wheels. They put 10" wide tires on the front and 11" wide tires on the rear. So, you should be good to put any 32"-33" tall X 10"-11.5" wide tire on them that you want to. 32" X 10" is by far the most common size that people put on the XD's
So to make sure I understand clearly; 32”x10” or 33”x10.5” BFG KM3 UTV tires would be a good choice for stock wheels and suspension?

Yes, both of those would work fine.
Thank you! Well I just went out and checked and my wheels are 14” because I got the 1500 XD Premium. Looks like my tire options are limited unless I buy 15” wheels.

I think the wider tire in the rear may be due the weight capability of hauling and towing.

I guess I didn't know the cheap bastards put a 14" wheel on the premium models, I knew the tire was smaller but didn't consider the rim being smaller too. I'm not saying your wrong but I don't know why Polaris would have went through the headache of making a 5 lug 14" rim for this model. Are you sure it's not a 15" rim?
