Trail Limits And The New Ranger XD 1500

This is interesting, Minnesota has limits on the trails for sidexside and i know I'm over on many of these with my 1500. The interesting part is I have been stopped and checked many time and the DNR in Minnesota has said nothing, just looking for registration. (hopefully they don't read this!)

Yeah, it is interesting. I was hopeful that Wisconsin will be a catalyst for MN to up their weight limit, but so far it's gone nowhere.

WE ride with XD 1500 Crew with almost 6000 miles on MI, WY, ID, MT, and AZ and going to ride UT and have trail stickers for all and no weight or width restrictions unless posted at trail head for 50" only.

Riding in Minnesota with family from Minnesota last summer I noticed that all of us were over weight. Living in Wisconsin they just changed to 3500lbs this week efective 1st of March. While watching our laws I stumbled on to a Minnesota bill being talked about going to 3000lbs but Polais representative subjected going to 3500lbs the bill was tabled
As they waited to see what happened here hopefully they will increase to 3500lbs. When I was in Minnesota I noticed the same thing just checked my non resident tag. Sujest looking for Minnesota atv/utv association good place to start. I also was told that so long as you were riding respectfully they would leave you alone. GOOD LUCK

Lol. All good. This was discussed earlier in this thread as well. WI has been 3000lbs for some time, and that alone wasn't enough to get MN to move forward... so time will tell. I have reached out to the association and asked if this will be an initiative for 2026... crickets.

Wisconsin atv/utv association had been at it for at least 18 months
Good luck. Your welcome in Wisconsin. I will still sneak over

The new Ranger XD 1500 is big and I got me wondering if it's technically too big for some trails? I think I remember hearing about some Wisconsin trail systems that limit vehicles to less than 3,000 lbs? I just looked up a fully loaded Ranger XD 1500 NorthStar Ultimate 6-seater and the dry weight is 3,323 lbs! I had to look at that number a couple of times just to make sure it was correct haha! I'm going to guess that most people would just look at it as a UTV and not realize how heavy it actually is. I know a lot of trails are limited by width so any trail with a width limit of 64 inches or higher should be fine.

Congrats to those in Wisconsin and nearby states. 3500 lbs. is great but still not enough if you have a 4 door with very many accessories on it. I'm sure they won't be that picky about it and probably only care about the weight listed on the registration.

If I recall correctly, the 3500 lb limit part of the UTV definition in the state statutes is dry weight from the factory. Not what you put on or in it.

The new law refers to dry weight
Does not matter what you add
It is DRY weight only and that comes from the manufacturer. POLAIS.

Ya, I get that..........that's why I said "and probably only care about the weight listed on the registration."
