Clunk discussion

Heard back from my dealer this morning on my 24 model. They are going to start with the CV axle but they had to order one. I have 50 miles on the 25 model. So far so good. It definitely downshifts smoother and I like the door straps. Disappointed with the power windows. Drivers side is very slow going up and passenger window not much better. Just like the 24 model. I have heard it’s the dust or dirt that makes them slow but that’s not the problem. I’ll keep updating on repairs on the 24 model.

I learned today that I’m getting new rear axles, when I called for an update. Didn’t ask for details or why new axles. Didn’t really have time to spend to much time on the phone. But I should be able to pick it up on Saturday and I’ll ask questions for more details and share any info I get.

Finally,,,,,maybe,,, a resolution ???? Will be looking forward to your results and if it remains silent. If the clunk comes from the the spline engagement between the axle end and the hub I am interested to know if they will install new hubs as well.

Maybe they finally have an answer to the dreaded clunk. One would not have thought this would have been so hard or taken so long. You would think Polaris should have just a little bit of experience in UTV drivelines by now. How do you claim to be the market leader while instructing your dealers to solve a drive line problem with Loc-Tite?

I really hope it works out for you and that you have better luck.
I got my ranger back from the dealer and mine clunks worse than ever. It's just as loud or louder than when I took it in and occurs much more frequently. Polaris stated that the loctite and the shims were the only fix. I apparently had a lot of backlash, at 600 miles. Polaris advised the dealer that this noise could be a normal thing and that I was to use and drive it as normal. They would not look into it further.

I would be interested in knowing if they really took your gear case apart and shimmed the ring/pinion. With all the clunk reports there has been none that blew the gearcase apart which would happen if the they were that badly out of tolerance for very long.
I also think it is amazing how many different reports owners are receiving from the dealer network. Some are still saying loctite is the only remedy and the have been others receiving axles 6 months ago. My hope is that what Clubins dealer told him that there is a new designed axle in the works is real

That’s what I’m hoping for. When I dropped it off, I mentioned that mine was still clunking about the same as it has. And that I wanted to report it again, in case of any future issues. I was told that there was still no permanent fix and that they were advised not to do the loctite. A couple days later I was called and told that the straps were not going to be free due to Polaris not issuing it as a recall, but my axles were gonna get the loctite fix. Then yesterday was informed that my machine is done, besides waiting on the rear axles to arrive and be installed.

I would like to know for sure as well. Dealer stated mine was 2.5 times accepted backlash before shims. They sounded a bit disgusted with polaris as well. I did call a dealer in another town but they had yet to get a ranger in with this problem. Trouble with living in a small area I guess. Dealer did say well if something breaks then we'll know what to fix and we have all this documented so they will have to warranty it. Really hate that thinking.

Hopefully your dealer is a not a personal friend as I don't want to offend but they have all over the map with you on loctite, no loctite, yes loctite/

I totally agree! Thats why I was a bit confused yesterday when I was told “just waiting on the new rear axles to arrive and be installed”. I thought I’d wait to ask any questions until I’m on site and talk to a manager versus a counter guy.

I kinda hesitate to post this for fear of jinxing myself, but my clunking might be fixed. I've got an early 2024 model with 4200 miles on it now. I've had the fore and aft clunk since probably 1000 miles or so. Then it developed into a series of those same sounding clunks when turning left. Coming from left rear. It really sounded like a cv joint to me. I took it to my closest dealer a while back for the door latch recall. He heard it, but said there wasn't much he could do since everything felt tight. (Which it did) I took it to a second dealer a couple weeks ago and the mechanic riding with me immediately said something ain't right and ordered both new rear axles under warranty that day. I took it in a few days ago and all clunking sounds are gone, hopefully for good. I don't know if the axles were upgraded or the same part number. I do know they did the loctite number on it. I have read a couple guys saying on a Facebook page that some axles were shipped without grease in the boots but I certainly can't confirm or deny that. I've loved my machine since day one but it pissed me off a little every time I drove it. I sure hope it's the end of the problem, but I'm not going to bet on it.

100% agreement with you Jay B, love this machine but have totally felt betrayed with Polaris's non shalane recognition of a real issue. Holy cow, most of us spent 50K on these. I was one of the early successful Loctite bandages but have felt my machine is compromised and hopefully the new axles are the correction.
I hope your clunk is behind you and hope to hear you say it is gone in a couple months .

Ok, a guy by the name Mike, finally called me back. He said he was following up on me wanting someone to call me back about my case. So I explained my case again and he said he would run it up the channels. He kept telling me he wasn't an engineer, but he was still concerned about wanting everyone to be happy about Polaris. To make a long story short, he was just appeasing me because I asked for a call. As many times as he said he wasn't a decision maker, I realized he was just doing what he was told. Very unhappy with POLARIS yet.
Ok, got my ranger back about a month later, they pulled both axles and cleaned the splines. one circle clip was stuck, cleaned it up and got it free. they passed the tug test and said give it a try under warranty. Worse part is it was clunking within a couple hours when I received it back last time. we'll see. They did add the straps to the doors.

My new 2025 has 350 miles now and isn’t doing the clunk but has developed more like a pop ever so often. Maybe the driveline. Drivers window barely rolls up. I’m like you guys, I really need and like this 1500 but man is it getting aggravating for what this machine cost. Still have not heard any update on my traded in 24 model other then going to replace the cv axle.

I got new axles and the dealer applied loctite to them. Let it sit for a couple days to let the loctite cure. My machine still clunks. Not as bad as it was, but it’s still doing it.

Not sure if it the same but my suspension pops a lot. It has since day one but where we ride is full of off cambers and ravines causing a lot of flex.
